The Interview: 1. What's your background? How did you get started in the fitness industry? I love to weight train, I was a head cheerleader and on the gymnastics team in high school and that is it! Which makes it very difficult for me to remain competitive among all the Professional dancers, cheerleaders and gymnasts who have enter the sport! 2. What do you feel is your biggest fitness-related accomplishment? I am most proud of placing in the top twenty at the 2001 Fitness America Pageant. It aired on ESPN all year and all my friends, family and acquaintances were able to see it! 3. Is fitness modeling/competition your full-time job? If not, what else do you do? First and foremost I am a mom! I also run my husbands Electrical Contracting business and do a little bit of personal training (but I can't really consider that work because I enjoy it so much!) 4. What are your immediate and long-term goals? To continue to make a good showing at all the competitions that I enter. To continue to turn beginners onto the activity of weight training and the sport of Fitness competitions. To be a great mom and to be happy with where ever I happen to be and whatever I happen to do! 5. Please describe a typical day for you. What is your daily routine like? I wake at 530am to do cardio. Eat breakfast at 700am (egg whites, oatmeal, raisins and almonds) weight train at about 10am (1 or 2 body parts per day, 3 exercises- 3 sets per body part.) Practice my routine and stretch. Eat a balance bar. Have lunch at 200pm (ground turkey burger, whole wheat bread, tsp of peanut butter, dried apricots.) Eat dinner at about 600pm (stir fry consisting of chicken, mixed veggies, almonds and soy sauce.) In bed by 1000pm (8 or 9 if possible!) I work everything else around these activities. I only actually go to the gym 4 days per week. 6. Please describe your normal diet. How do you eat to stay in shape? I eat like mentioned in my last answer year round but off season I'm not as strict. I will go out to dinner or lunch if invited or eat whatever I want on special occasions. This way I don't feel like an outsider. 7. What is your training routine like? I change it often but what I like best is: - Shoulders monday 3 exercises, 3 sets per exercise. - Bi's and tri's on Tuesday. - Legs on Wednesday. - Abs and anything I missed on Thursday. - Chest and back on Friday. I try to work in a lot of body resistance exercises with the appropriate body parts to help improve my routine (ie. sets of caterpillar pushups for tri's, pull ups for back, leg raises and extensions with a hold on top for legs.) I've really cut back on the amount of weight training and it's intensity because Fitness America judges are marking down for excessive muscle and believe it or not they have already told me once that I was too muscular for my small frame. They are really beginning to lean towards a more easily attainable "mainstream" type look. 8. What supplements do you use? I take a multivitamin and calcium supplement every morning. I use thermogenics when necessary. I like Hydroxycuts or Thermogen. When I really need a kick I'll use Thermodrene or Ripped Fuel. 9. How do you motivate yourself to get/stay in shape? I have a subscription to Oxygen Magazine. It motivates me to see all the women I compete with doing so well and looking so good! I hope someday to grace the pages of Oxygen, too! Music definitely motivates me. I don't workout without a headset. If I forget it I go home! Almost any type of music will do. It really depends on my mood. 10. What are a few of your favorite fitness and health-related web sites? [no answer] 11. What tips would you give to someone who wanted to get into the fitness modeling (or fitness competition) industry? Enter only those competitions where there will be a lot of exposure (ie. magazine representatives, photographers and/or television.) Have a variety of great photos taken (ie. bikini, fitness wear and maybe evening wear or lingerie depending on what kind of look you want to portray.) And just get yourself out there! 12. If someone you knew asked you how to lose weight and get into shape quickly, what would you tell them? There is no secret to losing weight; you simply need to eat less and exercise more. Make exercise a priority in your day. Fit it into a time in your schedule that will never conflict with anything else (this may have to be very early in the morning or later at night.) But it HAS to be uninterrupted time that you put aside for yourself every day. Also, pay close attention to what you eat (I've heard people say "...I haven't eaten all day..." yet they finished a half eaten donut, drank a Coolata, grabbed a handful of chips from their friend...and didn't even count it!) Well, it counts! Everything you put in your mouth counts, so be aware of it! 13. What do you feel differentiates you from other people in your field? I am different from others in the fitness industry because this is just a hobby for me! I am having a wonderful time, meeting lots of great people, and making myself better inside and out everyday! Fortunately, I am not under any pressure to make an income doing this. Although, at the same time many opportunities have risen from it! 14. Is there anything else you'd like to say? -I am available for modeling work and appearances.
