Fitness Model Interview:

Gina Farnsworth

The Interview:

1. What’s your background? How did you get started in the fitness modeling/fitness competition field?

From the age of 7 through to my mid teens I was a competitive gymnast. I retired from gymnastics at the age of 15. However, after taking a few years off, I realized I missed the training and competitive atmosphere of it. So I decided to join a gym. In 1992 I visited a weight training center and started training. I took notice how many of the women looked back then in the Muscle and Fitness, FLEX and Muscle Builder Magazines, so when I went to the gym to join I met Sue Martin ( Miss Australia in the late 80's ) who told me I had great genetics for bodybuilding. So, with encouragement from her and lots of motivation.... an addiction was born!!!! I started competing.

2. What do you feel is your biggest fitness-related accomplishment?

Is yet to come! (Although ... competing back home at the Australian Nationals was cool -- placed second -- and I suppose winning two state titles was a wonderful achievement that I am very proud of)

3. Is fitness modeling/competition your full-time job? If not, what else do you do?

No way! I do that sort of thing as a 'side' project. Waaaaaay too many gorgeous gals out there who would kick my butt at that. I have no doubt I shall compete again and try my best but because I am an Aussie citizen I am only able to compete at the smaller local shows...still competition, but not as much "drive" as being able to compete Nationally. These days I get most reward & satisfaction by helping others achieve their goals......so personal training is what I do for the most part.

4. Please describe a typical day for you. What is your daily routine like?

Up at 5am (or 4:20am if I am dieting and doing cardio first) ... eat, get ready for the day.....6:30am - 12pm training clients & myself at the gym ..... home to eat and reply to emails (online training client) if I have the time. Also to run errands if any need to be done..... 1pm - 6pm work 4 days a week at a veterinary hospital ......7pm - 8:30pm train another client or wait while my hibby trains a client if I don't have one that particular night then home!!!! Of course my days are constantly a changin'!!

5. Please describe your normal diet. How do you eat to stay in shape?

Always try to eat a 'cleaner' diet Monday thru Friday and relax a little on the weekends. If I am dieting then I eat clean every day and throw in a cheat day one every 2 weeks. I have to be careful otherwise the pounds can creep up fast!! :)

Also like to try to get in 8 sessions of cardio each week (AM for 6 days and PM every second night)

6. What is your training routine like?

All this info and much more can be found by going to my website http://GinaFarnsworth.net

7. What supplements do you use?

I try not to overload on supplements but love to regularly use Glutamine (twice a day).....Whey protein (twice a day) ...multi vitamin/mineral (twice a day)...ALA (twice a day)...... I also use AST's Dymetadrine Xtreme as a fat burner (or kick-starter) before I train.

8. How do you motivate yourself to get/stay in shape?

I LOVE to be in 'shape' ..... plus my hubby is a competitive bodybuilder so we are both able to easily keep one another motivated. Makes it SO MUCH easier when we are both restricting calories by being able to understand what we are going thru so we don't have any junk food in the house. We also do cardio together and train together..easy eh??

9. What are a few of your favorite fitness and health-related web sites?

http://getbig.com

http://derikfarnsworth.com

http://flexonline.com

http://netrition.com

10. If someone you knew asked you how to lose weight and get into shape quickly, what would you tell them?

Be patient!! Nothing on the face of this earth will make you lose weight fast enough! :) Also.....add in some cardio 4 - 5 times a week. Cut out bad foods from Monday to Friday keeping your protein intake high, your fat no more then 25 grams per day and your carbs lower then usual. Get rid of all junk food from the house (if able to -- depends on kids etc)
